Unit Description

The unit will explore the ubiquitous human experience of faith and spirituality as it relates to the youth experience. The various social and cultural factors that influence the content and expression of spirituality will be explored with a view to the student beginning to work sympathetically with the young person’s expression of faith and the dynamics of the faith community.

Students will grow in their appreciation of the interaction between faith development and the young person’s life-span development (i.e. emotional, social, physical, ethical and identity formation). The unit will also explore the connection between spirituality, wellbeing and vulnerability in young people.

Various approaches to interacting and developing spirituality in young people will be explored. Various topics which may be treated summarily or a few in-depth might include:

Teaching Strategies

Teaching strategies include: lectures and tutorials; weekend schools; class discussions; presentation of instructional material in the form of printed documentation, DVD, video and audio tape and on-line interaction. This module is also available in flexible learning format.
