Mental Health in Young People Part 2 introduces the complexity around diagnosis and diagnostic systems and the synthesis of these ideas. It offers an alternative clinical staging framework which can assist with critically evaluating and conceptualising emerging mental health issues in young people. These approaches are applied to the complex challenge of assessment and diagnosis, and treatment planning, which might include therapy and/or psychotropic medication. This subject specifically discusses the low prevalence and high severity illnesses of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorders and posttraumatic stress disorder.
