Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to:

Unit Description

Following on from Leadership 1 which focuses on leadership theories and models, Leadership 2 explores key concepts of leadership practice.

  1. Strategic planning which addresses topics such as the development of organisational mission, vision, values and objectives.
  2. Organisational leadership which includes systems thinking, managing and leading teams, organisational politics and power, organisational structure and decision making processes.
  3. Interpersonal Skills such as emotional and social intelligence and mentoring.
  4. Managing organisational change and conflict.

Teaching Strategies

Teaching strategies include lectures, tutorials, weekend schools and presentation of instructional material in the form of printed documentation, OHP, DVD, video and audio tape and on-line interaction. Students also learn by class discussion, personal study, preparation of assignments and assessment comments on their work.
