On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to:

Unit Description

The unit begins by reviewing contemporary approaches to church growth and church health including the church growth movement, seeker sensitive approaches, Natural Church Development and data from the National Christian Life Survey.

The development of church is assessed with attention being given to both small and large settings. The transitions and growth cycles of church life, health and growth are evaluated. The process of revitalising and re-developing churches is explored.

Particular focus will be given to family systems theory and its application to the Christian ministry context. The principles of family systems theory will be explored and evaluated from a Christian perspective.

The unit will also address administrative aspects of church management such as financial management, strategic planning and organisational structure.

At the conclusion of this unit the student will be able to identify the key dimensions that contribute to church health and vitality.

Teaching Strategies

Teaching strategies include lectures, tutorials, weekend schools and presentation of instructional material in the form of printed documentation, OHP, DVD, video and audio tape and on-line interaction. Students also learn by class discussion, personal study, preparation of assignments and assessment comments on their work.
