Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate the ability to define a suitable topic and complete high-level, critical analysis of literature on the chosen topic, through conducting a literature review.

• Demonstrate the ability to independently research a chosen topic, synthesising research and applying theoretical perspectives to a specialised area.

• Clearly communicate theoretical concepts and research findings to an audience of peers.

Unit Description

In this subject students are offered the opportunity to pursue elective studies in specific areas of interest that will extend their basic training in language development into a consideration of more complex issues. Students will familiarise themselves with major theoretical perspectives in the issue(s), research relevant literature and, where applicable, gain experience in analysis and problem solving in the issue(s).

As agreed with the supervisor. The issue(s) will be negotiated and personalised for each student.

Assessment and Indicative Load

Assessment types include Annotated Bibliography, Major Essay, and Class Presentation. Indicative study load is 150 hours.
