CN9400 Professional Placement 1
On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to:
Make effective use of supervisory input to meet learning goals by addressing the needs of both clients and the placement organisation while navigating complex ethical issues
Critically reflect on progress towards learning agreement goals
Communicate respectfully and professionally with clients, colleagues and community members while maintaining ethical standards
Apply advanced counselling theory, skills, knowledge and values effectively, with initiative and judgment, in a practice-based setting
This second of two counselling placement units supports students to gain a further 100 hours of work experience in a real practice setting. The placement will be in a setting distinct from Practicum 1 and will include a further 40 hours of face-to-face counselling experience and 25 hours of supervision within the 100 hour total.
Emphasis in each assessment for this unit is placed on rigorous self-reflection with the support of professional and peer supervisors as well as on wrestling with more complex ethical dilemmas.
Students continue with onsite supervision as well as weekly group supervision with classmates and are required to continue developing and evaluating their learning agreement begun in Practicum 1. Their placement experience culminates in a review by their supervisor.
This unit is a hurdle unit: all assessments must be satisfactorily completed but no grades are awarded.
Assessment types include Reflection Paper, Case Study, Field Placement Hours Report, and Attendance. Indicative study load is 150 hours.
