Unit Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required by an education support worker to support students with additional needs in classrooms where there are students with a mix of abilities and needs.

This unit applies to education support work in a variety of contexts and the work is to be undertaken with appropriate guidance, support and supervision by a nominated teacher or other education professional.


Providing support in relation to the two main areas of additional need.
Sharing information with others to facilitate student support.
Language, equipment, materials and strategies suited to those with additional needs.
Individual education programs.
Modifying general activities to meet particular student needs.
Using behaviour management strategies and techniques.
Providing constructive advice and feedback.

This unit may be available in different modes of delivery i.e. online and face-to-face as listed above. The unit content will not differ between these modes of delivery. There will possibly be a difference in the schedule and/or the prescribed assessment tasks, however both will cover and assess the same content.
