Relationship to competency standards

Unit Description

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to support students with different developmental issues to participate in classroom and other school activities. The unit applies to education support work in a variety of contexts and the work is to be undertaken with appropriate guidance, support and supervision by a nominated trainer or other education professional.

The unit begins by giving an overview of child development and factors beyond the classroom that impact children’s behaviour. The unit then discusses social and emotional development and considers different theoretical models of behavior. Cognitive, language and physical development are then all considered in turn.
