Unit Description

The unit commences with a review of the key concepts in the subject BB685.306 New Testament Greek 1

Participles are then introduced and described in terms of their verbal and adjectival qualities. Present, aorist and perfect tense participles are considered in turn for active, middle and passive voices. The meanings of participles in attributive and predicate positions are compared and contrasted for each of these tenses.

A review of the indicative mood sets the background for the study of the subjunctive mood. The subjunctive is studied in the present, first aorist and second aorist tenses. The active, middle and passive voices are considered and special emphasis is placed upon “red flag” words that indicate the subjunctive mood.

A review is also completed on the endings for the infinitives and serves as the basis for considering the use of infinitives with emphasis upon: their verbal nature, their nature as a noun, and their use in complementing verbs.

The irregular forms of verbs and participles are examined with detailed analysis of contract and liquid verbs. Rules of lengthening and contraction are noted in addition to: stem changes, reduplication, internal changes and the rejection of letters.

The earlier understanding of pronouns is reviewed to facilitate the discussion of interrogative, indefinite and relative pronouns.

The imperative and optative moods are considered with particular emphasis upon the similarities between endings for the indicative and imperative moods.

Throughout the unit there is a steady increase in the number of Greek words. This vocabulary is presented in a standard lexical format with both nominative and genitive forms noted for nouns.
