On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to:
Critically assess the unique challenges and complexities of cross-cultural organisational partnerships and ascertain what a transformative partnership would require in their context.
Articulate the significance and distinctives of the Christian faith for the way in which Christian NGOs operate.
Comprehend the complexity of critical factors that influence organisational health and sustainability.
Describe the features, nature and habits of godly leadership in their cultural context.
Create and refine processes for healthy and respectful organisational practices and planning.
This unit explores the necessity of developing a culture of integrity within institutions and organisations, and provides learners with an opportunity to investigate how a strong commitment to well-defined core values and mission, informed by biblical notions of justice, equality and human dignity, can provide a sound basis for organisational development. Learners will reflect on how Christian NGOs operate as an organisation, touching on key issues such as governance and boards, managing organisational change, leading through crisis, safeguarding, spiritual formation of staff, self-care and conflict management. These issues will be considered from a biblical perspective with the aim of ensuring theological, relational and governance integrity through every aspect of organisational life. Particular attention will be given to the role and tasks of the leader, evaluating different cultural leadership styles through theological reflection. Learners will reflect on their own organisational experiences to develop an understanding of what makes an NGO particularly ‘Christian’ in their specific context. Consideration will also be given to the challenges and complexities of the relationship between funding and implementing organisations.
