Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to:

• Demonstrate the biblical, historical and systematic foundations for the development of the doctrine of the Trinity.

• Evaluate and analyse current controversies regarding the Trinity and their relevance for contemporary issues including the role of women in Church Leadership, and the missional nature of the Church.

• Communicate and transfer complex theological insights around the Trinity to the Mission of the Church

• Critically review differing scholarly views on the Trinity

Unit Description

The Doctrine of the Trinity is perhaps one of the most defining aspects of Christianity and our understanding of God. This Unit will examine the biblical and historical foundations of the doctrine as it emerged from the New Testament, through the early church, and culminating in the declarations at the Council of Nicaea.

Two important aspects of Trinitarian theology will be explored in relationship to two critical areas of the Church’s life. The role of the Missional Church and the role of Women in leadership.
