On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to:
Critically evaluate the key dimensions of and approaches to leadership
Construct a model of leadership appropriate for a Christian context
Evaluate and prioritise a list of essential character traits necessary for effective leadership
Articulate the value of self-leadership and self-awareness in leadership
The unit commences by defining leadership and identifying the key dimensions of leadership. Key theories and models of leadership are explored and evaluated from a Christian perspective. Examination extends to a variety of predominant leadership characteristics that are then applied to the individual conceptualizing their personal leadership attributes. At the conclusion of the unit, the student is expected to be able to analyse, describe and assess leadership principles from a general perspective as well as a specifically Christian perspective.
Teaching strategies include lectures, tutorials, journaling, and presentation of instructional material in the form of printed documentation and OHP. Students also learn by class discussion, personal study, preparation of assignments and assessment comments on their work and on-line interaction.
