On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to:
Examine and generate expository and persuasive style pieces.
Critically examine, apply and evaluate drafting and editing processes to improve all aspects of writing.
Demonstrate a range of skills at graduate level for writing effectively for particular audiences and purposes including: reading for meaning; researching; evaluating resources; and using ICT tools.
Critically analyse and write in various genres using graduate level language that is consistent in knowledge, structure, style and fluency with the genre.
This unit is designed to help students develop their writing skills in an open and interesting environment. Students will learn through individual, pair and group work how to become a more successful writer. Students will be introduced to different text types and they will develop strategies for thinking, analysing and writing in different styles. Students will be exposed to both critical thinking and personal reflection about how writers construct texts including visual, written and electronic texts. Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of how language works and use this to construct engaging writing for different audiences and purposes. They will engage with the drafting and editing processes to become skilled writers in both expository and persuasive styles.
