Unit Description

This unit will examine the complex history of relations between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples in Australia since 1770. Areas covered include: first contact; processes of invasion, dispossession, and settlement; challenges and changes to government policy; the struggle for indigenous rights; the role of the Church; and the movement for reconciliation.
