Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to:

• Analyse the impact of the European invasion upon indigenous Australians.

• Evaluate different interpretations of the histories of interaction between Europeans and indigenous Australians.

• Explain the importance of oral tradition in examining indigenous perspectives.

Unit Description

This unit will examine the complex history of relations between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples in Australia since 1770.

• The struggle for indigenous rights
• The role of the Church
• The movement for reconciliation.
