Unit Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety issues in the workplace, model cultural safety in own work practice, and develop strategies to enhance cultural safety. The unit begins by identifying cultural safety issues and the potential impact of cultural factors on service delivery to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients in a school/educational environment.

The unit then discusses the importance of modelling cultural safety in an education support environment with particular emphasis placed upon an awareness of both the worker’s own, and other cultures in work practices.

The unit concludes with a focus upon developing strategies for improved cultural safety and the importance of valuating these cultural safety strategies.
