Unit Description

Students undertaking this unit have completed a minor or major study in English and English Literature. The material in this unit is designed to assist the students apply this content knowledge to improving the English for Yr. 7-10 students. This will require knowledge of the particular content that is mandated through the Victorian Curriculum documents as well as what Shulman called pedagogical content knowledge – the art of making the content understandable and relevant for youth. This unit will introduce the strategies used by experienced teachers to engage manage and assess their English classes. The unit will also introduce various perspectives of teaching English focusing on a Christian perspective of language and language acquisition.
