Unit Description

Students undertaking this unit have completed a minor or major study in Psychology. The material in this unit is designed to assist the students in applying this content knowledge and integrating it with specific teaching methods appropriate to teaching Pre-VCE Psychology in order to develop students’ pedagogical content knowledge. This unit will cover the particular content that is relevant to teaching at this level.

This unit covers relevant learning theory and strategies for promoting motivation, engagement, participation and learning in Psychology as well as strategies for assessing students’ competencies and for organising and managing classes. The unit also examines teaching resources and their effectiveness for supporting learning in Psychology and covers strategies for teaching the knowledge, skills and processes to students with additional needs in order to create inclusive access to learning in Psychology. These areas of focus are then applied to prepare units of work, individual lessons and assessments. The unit will also explore the teaching of Psychology from a range of perspectives, with particular focus on a Christian perspective.
