Unit Description

This unit is a core unit of competency in the Certificate III in Education Support.

The unit describes the skills and knowledge required by an education support worker to support students with additional needs in classrooms where there are students with a mix of abilities and needs. The unit commences by discussing diversity and inclusion in education and the importance of procedures, guidelines and protocols.

The unit then highlights the importance of identifying students with additional needs and then developing support strategies and Individual education plans (IEP). The unit concludes by discussing some common disabilities.

This unit applies to education support work in a variety of contexts and the work is to be undertaken with appropriate guidance, support and supervision by a nominated teacher or other education professional.
