Unit Description

In this unit students will arrange and execute either a semester long practical internship or project for themselves, in consultation with the academic in charge, that engages their interest in the visual arts in the society in some way. An Internship structure is specifically designed to allow the student to explore a setting potentially significant to the development of their art work. The internship cannot just be a job and should allow the student to actively participate in the activities a professional individual or organisation is involved in during the period of the internship. In consultation with the academic in charge and the practicing individual or organisation, the students must identify a clear research agenda for selection of the setting and create a viable documentation / reflection strategy to be used during this experience. The expectations, meeting times, topic, method and overall internship outline will be developed in consultation with the individual or organisation. The Project should be especially designed to allow the student to explore the process and skills of utilising their creative visual art skills by presenting some type of finished product which can be presented to the general public or specifically identified group of people. In consultation with the academic in charge students must identify a clear research agenda for selection of the setting and create a viable documentation / reflection strategy to be used during this experience. The expectations, meeting times, topic, method and overall internship outline will be developed in consultation with the academic in charge who will act as the supervisor. A combination of the two may also be explored and confirmed with the academic in charge if that appears to be most suitable.
